Out of the Ashes: 9/11

Luis Chimbo
Although educated, Luis Chimbo was unable to provide for his family in his home country of Ecuador. Seeking a better life, he moved with his wife to New York, leaving his young son in the care of relatives.
Despite being an undocumented worker, he gained employment as a busboy at the restaurant Windows on the World. Through persistence and hard work, he was promoted to the position of manager. Eventually, he brought his son to the United States.
Luis dreamed of owning his own business, buying a home, and seeing his only child go to college. On September 11th, when Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, he was at work coordinating breakfast service on the 106th floor.
